The Minnesota Land Trust is applying for the second renewal of its accreditation. This status is awarded by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance.

Accredited - Land Trust Accreditation CommissionProtecting land forever relies on more than just writing a valid conservation easement and having staff to monitor properties, it also relies on a land trust meeting certain best practices to ensure our easements will be enforceable in perpetuity. Thankfully, the Land Trust Alliance has created a standard of accreditation to ensure land trusts are meeting those best practices. The Minnesota Land Trust was one of the very first land trusts to be accredited and we have proudly maintained that status for over a decade.

It is critical for the Minnesota Land Trust to maintain accreditation as a way to keep our promise of “forever” to our landowners and supporters.

The Minnesota Land Trust now protects over 57,000 acres of natural lands and 1.5 million feet of shoreline on lakes and rivers across our state. By ensuring the organization meets the highest national standards for excellence and conservation permanence, it will meet the conservation challenges ahead of it, and maintain the trust of landowners, supporters, and policymakers across Minnesota.

To that end, a public comment period is now open. If you would like to make a comment about our organization, please do so.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how the Minnesota Land Trust complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. A full list of standards can be found here.
